Review:

Their debut on a Mass Hysteria Jam gave Sublime Wizardry, consisting of Merlin (Hamburg) and Remark from Monkeysons/Deliverance fame with a brilliant set of chunas. A very promising new combo of two oldschoolers with a more experimental sound, very psychedelic and atmospheric. We will definitly hear much more of these guys very soon! Be glad if you got hold of the promo-cd they brought!

Next one on stage were The Mantis Chapter who did what anyone expected. Another great set of trueschool hiphop. Their set was containing some classics from their debut 12inch as well as some newer tunes from the mini-album. Personal highlight: ‘Meditate on Mortality’ from the Underground United sampler, their newest production to date. Big up TSone and Acas13, keep it coming!

Some familar faces going up on stage…ah yes, thats Remark and Bandog. Time for the Monkeysons. On their side – the hardest working Dj on the jam, Dj Tones. These legends rocked the crowd once again and found in Hamburg their second home I’m sure. Pure energy on stage, the set was absolutely on fire…as always. dope show!

Hamburgs oldschol-crew Hideouz Newcome presented us once again a great mixture of older classical tunes such as ‘no responsibility’ as well as tunes from their latest release ‘deadly as a dragon kiss’. Mc Hideouz and Dj Psychopath proved once again that they deserve their status as legends of Hamburg Hardcore! Word up!

Killa Instinct were next on stage, and anyone who ever saw them live knows that any Killa Instinct show has a jump-up guarantee. Tunes from every epoche of the hardcore-rap with a power-performance of Bandog on the vox, remark on the backings and Dj Tones on the dex were heating up the crowd. Anything you wish to hear, from ‘bambi murders’ to ‘inhuman monsta’. Wicked!

Another promising collabo is the new founded crew Renaissance Men of TSone, Hideouz, Acas13 and Dj Psychopath. These names should ring bells anyways. Awesome never before heard tracks which will be pressed up on vinyl soon. Just to name one…’journey of skills part 2′! A top-seller for sure, anyone who saw and heard that performance will agree here! Bring it on!

Next one on stage, first time on a Mass Hysteria Jam ever…Drunken Eejit. Making hardcore tunes for ages these guys showed that they really know how to set the stage on fire. Before known as Manslaughter 666 (having two tracks released on a sampler in 1991) they go under the name of Drunken Eejit for several years now, Reach Da Reapa and Dj Tones presented a couple of awesome power-tracks like the newer version of the ‘91 banger ‘delirium’! Heavy stuff!

This years headliner, Chrome of Def Tex alongside partner Ill Inspired were really on fire. One time Chrome on the vox and Ill Inspired on the dex they changed places everytime, proving their skills on both the elements. Then both on the vox again, then going behind the decks and doing cuts and rapping at the same time, using a mic-stand, they played smoother tracks like ‘poetic speech techniques’ by Def Tex, then doing their verses on classical instrumentals such as Hijacks ‘hold no hostage’. This show was hard as hell. If you ever have the chance to see them live, do not miss it! Respect!

Conditions with Son Of Noise has been cleared months ago and flights has been payed by the Mass Hysteria Jam months ago also. The night before the jam Curoc sent an e-mail asking for where they are going to stay in the night, he asked ‘hopefully in a hotel?’. the word ‘hotel’ never got mentioned before, as they’ve been told in the following mail, they were meant to get a full house with two floors and different bath- and sleepingrooms on each and certainly all inclusive. also a cab for the whole weekend, willing to drive them anywhere they want at every time they want. Not recieving an answer within a while (until quarter past 2 in the night) it seemed to be okay. Later on the same day, about 7:45 german time, they sent another mail. It said they are not willing to stay somewhere else than in a hotel and will return back home if they don’t recieve a call until 10 in the morning (uk-time). That e-mail was read at 10 min past 10 in the morning (german time). Calling Son Of Noise immediately they said that they are already on their way home and won’t get back to the airport yet. Other possibilities were offered but they declined to return to the airport and rejected any try to make it to the jam.

This, and that they started to complain about the condition that short before the jam makes me think that they wouldn’t had come anyways. They could have come over first and then start to complain for example. any offer was made by me, a hotel promised and other flights offered. but obviously there was no interest to take any other opportunities. Also, they gave me about 3 hours for reacting, but at least they left before the ultimatum.

I’ve been a big fan of Son Of Noise myself and have put much work and money in to make the jam happen. This isn’t a fair and neither a professional behaviour.

Anyways, many thanks to all the crews involved for making this jam another wonderful one. Thanks for the spontaneous performances of some of the crews, that’s real professional and fair guys! And also big big thanks to anyone who was supported this years Mass Hysteria Jam! Respect!
